How to stop gaining weight is as good of a question as they get. As it is not enough to lose the weight, you have to maintain that weight loss. This is where most of us have failed at least once before; we were part of the 80% that gained it back.
Have you ever reached your weight loss goal and slip right back into old habits, all that hard work only lasted a short time. Weight control can be very difficult at the beginning. I know for me it was, it is a real learning curve.
The big trick to maintaining that weight loss is to maintain that healthy lifestyle you just spent months or maybe even a year or more perfecting.
Much easier said than done I know first thing, do not think you can eat what you did and how you ate before the weight loss. Let me explain, I know first thing I did wrong is to tell myself that I can eat the pizza and it will be ok. I lost weight and I am going to treat myself for all that hard work I just finished. Sound familiar, I am sure it does too many of us

That starts me on a downward spiral as soon as I give in to old habits. They say they are hard to give up and they are right.
You need now to start using what you have learned while you were losing your weight. To stop gaining weight, like myself took some trial and error. I started by incorporating certain different foods into my diet. I changed my workout routine around to more suit my lifestyle. I kept a careful watch on my Weight Gain and loss comparing them to my exercise level.
I added toast to my diet, I missed having toast or bread (as it is one of my huge weight gainers) I cut it out almost completely as I was losing weight, no big deal time to add it back in. Keeping my activity level high gave me opportunity to explore my more calorie options. Not the same as getting into bad habits as the activity level stays high.
In order to stop gaining weight forever you need to balance your diet with your activity level. If you find that, you are gaining a bit of weight take note and correct it immediately. If you are still losing and that is not what you want, again correct it immediately. Your body weight will go up and down a certain amount approx.5-8lbs.
Find that balance that works for you, not for me, for you. We are different people the same way our systems work differently from one another. Keep the faith, what works for one person may not work for the other. You must do some experimenting, will power and the great way you look will stop you from gaining weight.
